The Internal Revenue Service has announced that tax season will open on Monday, January 23, 2017 standard

The IRS will begin accepting electronic tax returns on January 23rd, with more than 153 million individual tax returns expected to be filed in 2017. There is no advantage to filing tax returns on paper in early January instead of waiting for the IRS to begin accepting e-filed returns. Taxpayers will get a few extra days to get their tax returns to the IRS in 2017. The filing deadline to submit 2016 tax returns is Tuesday, April 18, 2017. That’s because April 15, 2017, falls on a Saturday. That would normally result in a move to the following Monday (April 17, 2017). However, Emancipation Day falls on Monday, April 17 this year. Filing a State Return in Ohio? Bring Your Driver’s License standard

Ohio, along with other states, will require driver’s license information for the primary taxpayer and spouse (if Married Filing Jointly) beginning in tax year 2016 in an effort to combat stolen-identity tax fraud. Taxpayers will be asked to provide the information from their driver’s license or state issued identification card.  This will include: ID License Number, Issue Date,  and Expiration Date.    For taxpayers who do not have a driver’s license or state ID card, they will have the option to indicate such and still be allowed to e-file.  Please ask your NMS accountant for more details.

IRS Says Phone Scams Continue to be a Serious Threat standard

IRS-2016-14, Feb. 2, 2016 WASHINGTON — Aggressive and threatening phone calls by criminals impersonating IRS agents remain a major threat to taxpayers, headlining the annual “Dirty Dozen” list of tax scams for the 2016 filing season, the Internal Revenue Service announced today. NMS Restoring Old Mentor Village Hall standard

NMS has long had a commitment to restoring historically important buildings.  Our latest project is the complete restoration of the former Mentor Village Hall at 8383 Mentor Avenue (near the corner of Rt 615 and Mentor Avenue).  The location will be very convenient for our Lake County client base.  Additionally, this is the most significant redevelopment of a historic building in Mentor’s history.  This restoration was awarded federal, state and local historic preservation funds.  Completion is planned in Summer of 2016.  The project has been featured in the local media:
